On beginning the day slowly
There is a particular quality to the first hour of the morning — before the world asks anything of you.
I used to move through mornings quickly. Coffee made before I was fully awake, phone checked before I had even sat down. The day would begin at pace, and I would spend the rest of it trying to catch up with myself.
It was the greenhouse that changed things. There is no rushing in a greenhouse. Plants don't respond to urgency. The light moves at its own pace. The air smells of earth and green things, and something in that smell asks you to slow down.
I started spending the first part of my morning there. Not doing very much — checking on things, watering, noticing. And I noticed that the quality of the whole day shifted. Not because I had accomplished anything, but because I had begun gently.
Scent plays a part in this. The way a room smells when you first enter it shapes how you feel before you have even thought about how you feel. A candle lit in the early morning, a diffuser releasing something soft and green — these things are not decoration. They are a way of setting the tone.
Greenhouse Morning was blended with exactly this in mind. The citrus leaf and soft herbs are meant to feel like that first breath of cool air before the day begins. Not energising in the way of caffeine, but clarifying — the way a clear morning feels before anyone has said anything.
The ritual doesn't need to be elaborate. A few minutes of quiet. A scent that you return to. The intention to begin before the world begins with you.
That is enough.
